This book is based on the M. Tech. thesis titled Experimental and Numerical Investigations on Efficacy of Singly Curved Thin Piezo Transducers for Energy Harvesting and Structural Health Monitoring, completed at the Smart Structures and Dynamics Lab (SSDL), Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, in 2022. A research paper based on the outcomes of the thesis was published in the reputed journal Energy Reports in 2023 (Vol. 9, pp. 2506-2524, DOI: 10.1016/j.egyr.2023.01.084). However, owing to page limitations, full details of the work could not be covered in the journal paper. This book serves to mitigate the gap by providing the theoretical and the experimental aspects of the study in full minute detail so as to open doors for technology dissemination and translation in real life. Chapter 1 covers a brief introduction to the field followed by a detailed literature review in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 covers the experimental evaluation of the curved piezoelectric configuration, namely the concrete vibration energy harvester (CVEH), from the point of view of energy harvesting, relative to the straight configuration represented by the concrete vibration sensor (CVS). Chapter 4 extends the investigations to structural health monitoring (SHM), followed by analytical and numerical modelling in Chapter 5. Finally, Chapter 6 covers conclusions and recommendations, followed by a number of resources in appendices, which can be utilized by interested researchers for derivative works. The authors hope that readers will find the book useful and relevant and enable them to set up their own labs for scientific adventures in the field.
