With profound gratitude, I wish to convey my heartfelt appreciation to my remarkable spouse, my devoted parents, my motivating educators especially my teacher (Dr Venugopalan PP), and the supreme being for endowing me with the fortitude to articulate the extensively acknowledged and critically significant medical condition referred to as SEPSIS. This serious condition impacts nearly 30 million individuals, leading to around 3 million deaths each year. According to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Report on Epidemiology and Burden of Sepsis from 2020, a significant portion of sepsis cases affects children.
The purpose of this book is to provide a straightforward understanding of SEPSIS and its PROGNOSIS for undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, as well as medical faculty, using accessible language. The book takes a storytelling approach, making it easier to grasp the intricacies of Sepsis in a way that feels more engaging than a typical academic read.
This book delves into various dimensions of SEPSIS, from the basics of pathophysiology and a brief history to the evolution of its definition, disruptions in homeostasis, different protocols implemented, clinical trials that have taken place, and the prognostic evaluation of sepsis patients.
In today’s fast-paced world, TIME holds tremendous significance. Patients and their families look to healthcare professionals to deliver the best possible care, address their concerns, alleviate their worries, and offer reassurance. Every clinician dreams of seeing smiles on the faces of their patients and their loved ones. I hope this book inspires all who strive toward this goal.
